Here's a lovely video from a guy who speaks 15 different languages, explaining why learning languages is so important. As someone who speaks 5 languages, I can say that being able to communicate in a foreign language does increase your self-confidence, and brings out different parts of your personality. (When I went to Turkey with some friends, they were amazed that I seemed like a different person when I spoke Turkish.) It can be frustrating and sometimes embarrassing, but the benefits are enormous.
It is a pity that in the UK, fewer and fewer people are learning languages. English is the world's lingua franca, but that doesn't mean we should be lazy and not learn other people's languages. Here's an interesting article I read about this the other day.
So watch the video, and be happy that you are learning a foreign language and opening doors you didn't know were there.
My blog has changed! If you're looking for my English-practice exercises, they're all still here, just look in the archives.
